Odesa Oblast is a region in southern Ukraine, known for its seaports, resorts, and rich cultural heritage. Its cultural heritage includes a multinational history, literary and artistic circles, historically significant architecture like the Odesa Opera House, as well as wine-making regions.

 

Total Area: 33,310 km²

 

Administrative Structure: The region is divided into 7 districts, 19 cities, 33 urban-type settlements, and 1,121 villages. The administrative center is the city of Odesa.

 

Demographics: As of January 1, 2022, the population of Odesa Oblast was approximately 2.3 million people. Due to Russian aggression, the population has significantly decreased.

 

Interesting Facts: Odesa is a city with a rich history, where numerous historical sites, such as the Odesa Opera House and the Potemkin Stairs, are located. Numerous resorts on the Black Sea coast, such as Zatoka and Arcadia, are located in the region. Odesa Oblast is known for its wine-making regions, where famous Ukrainian wines are produced.

 

Russian-Ukrainian War: From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Odesa Oblast has repeatedly been subjected to missile attacks by Russian forces. The city of Odesa and other settlements in the region have suffered significant destruction as a result of constant shelling. Odesa region has important strategic value, because of access to the Black Sea. As a result of the war, the region suffered enormous destruction and losses.
