Luhansk Oblast is a region in Eastern Ukraine, known for its industrial traditions and natural resources, including coal deposits and industrial cities. Its cultural heritage includes Cossack traditions and the multinational history of the region.

 

Total Area: 26,684 km²

Administrative Structure: The region is divided into 8 districts, 37 cities, 80 urban type settlements, and 788 villages. The administrative centre is the city of Luhansk (temporarily occupied).

Demographics: As of January 1, 2022, the population of Luhansk Oblast was approximately 2.1 million people. Due to Russian aggression, the population has significantly decreased

 

Interesting Facts: Luhansk region is a land with an ancient history, where the cultural traditions of different peoples intertwine. The region is known for its coal deposits, which played an important role in the energy sector of Ukraine. Unique natural reserves, such as the Luhansk Nature Reserve, are located in the region.·

 

Russian-Ukrainian War: Since 2014, Luhansk Oblast has been an arena of hostilities. Part of the territory has been temporarily occupied by Russian troops. The war has caused catastrophic destruction to the region's infrastructure, housing stock, and ecology. The cities of Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk suffered significant destruction. Currently, the entire territory of the Luhansk region is occupied by Russian troops.
