Lviv Oblast is a region in western Ukraine, known for its historic cities, such as Lviv, cultural heritage, and the picturesque Carpathian Mountains. Its cultural heritage includes architectural landmarks, literary and artistic circles, as well as ski resorts.
Total Area: 21,833 km²
Administrative Structure: The region is divided into 7 districts, 44 cities, 34 urban-type settlements, and 1,850 villages. The administrative center is the city of Lviv.
Demographics: As of January 1, 2022, the population of Lviv Oblast was approximately 2.5 million people. Due to Russian aggression, the population has increased due to internally displaced persons.
Interesting Facts: Lviv is a city with a rich history, where numerous historical sites, such as the Lviv Opera House and the High Castle, are located. Numerous resorts in the Carpathian Mountains, such as Truskavets and Slavske, are located in the region. Lviv Oblast is known for its festivals and cultural events, such as the Lviv Book Forum.
Russian-Ukrainian War: From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Lviv Oblast became a haven for many internally displaced persons from other regions of Ukraine. Lviv and other settlements in the region have repeatedly been subjected to missile attacks by Russian forces. The area became an important logistic center for humanitarian aid, and military support. As a result of the war, the region received a large number of displaced people, and suffered destruction from missle attacks.
