Mykolaiv Oblast is a region in Southern Ukraine, known for its seaports, shipbuilding, and agriculture. Its cultural heritage includes shipbuilding traditions, seaside resorts, and Cossack traditions.

 

Total Area: 24,598 km²

 

Administrative Structure: The region is divided into 4 districts, 9 cities, 17 urban-type settlements, and 915 villages. The administrative center is the city of Mykolaiv.

 

Demographics: As of January 1, 2022, the population of Mykolaiv Oblast was approximately 1.1 million people. Due to Russian aggression, the population has significantly decreased.

 

Interesting Facts: Mykolaiv is a city with a rich shipbuilding history, where large shipbuilding plants are located. Numerous nature reserves and national parks, such as the Buzkyi Hard National Natural Park, are located in the region. Mykolaiv Oblast is known for its fertile soils, where grain and vegetable crops are grown.

 

Russian-Ukrainian War: From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Mykolaiv Oblast became one of the key arenas of hostilities. The city of Mykolaiv and other settlements in the region suffered significant destruction as a result of the Russian occupation and constant shelling. After the liberation of part of the Kherson region, Mykolaiv region became a front-line region, and is constantly shelled by Russian troops. As a result of the war, the region suffered enormous destruction and losses.
